EXI announces exciting collaboration with the Milton Keynes University Hospital Trust, Milton Keynes City Council and the Centre for Lifestyle Medicine and Behaviour at Loughborough University. https://www.exi.life/blog/exi-announces-exciting-collaboration-with-the-milton-keynes-university-hospital-trust-and-milton-keynes-city-council-centre-for-lifestyle-medicine-and-behaviour-at-loughborough-university/ Fri, 29 Sep 2023 13:22:32 +0000 https://www.exi.life/?p=2715 EXI is delighted to announce an exciting collaboration that marks a significant step forward in our mission to improve the lives of individuals living with diabetes in Milton Keynes. This transformative initiative, developed in partnership with the Milton Keynes University Hospital Trust, Milton Keynes City Council and the Centre for Lifestyle Medicine and Behaviour at Loughborough University. Working with primary care the partnership is set to empower the local population with diabetes to take control of their health.

The initiative combines the use of the Apple Watch, EXI mobile app and a compelling rewards scheme. Together, these elements will motivate and engage diabetic patients in Milton Keynes over a 24-month period, encouraging positive lifestyle changes.

The EXI app will be used to prescribe personalised exercise programmes for each patient in the scheme. Drawing upon the latest research across a spectrum of long-term health conditions, including but not limited to diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, anxiety, and depression. EXI ensures the safety and feasibility of exercise prescriptions.

For those with iPhones, an Apple Watch will be provided, offering a wealth of health sensors, unrivalled privacy and security features, an exceptional user experience, and consent controls centered on the user. This invaluable tool will enable patients to track their progress and adhere to their prescribed exercise routines.

To further incentivise and motivate participants, we are introducing a rewards system that will recognise and celebrate their achievements in meeting their physical activity goals throughout the entire 24-month program.

Grace McNamara, CEO of EXI, emphasises the significance of this initiative, stating, “We firmly believe that interventions like this are pivotal in improving the well-being of patients with diabetes while alleviating the strain on primary care, both in terms of GP resources and the NHS budget.”

Louise O’Mahony, Head of Customer Success at EXI advocates, “By harnessing the power of technology, we can deliver personalised care that empowers patients to actively participate in their health journeys, fostering long-term, sustainable behaviour change. In doing so, we can redirect valuable time back to our clinical staff and contribute to reducing the overall costs associated with diabetes treatment—a condition currently costing the NHS around £10 billion annually, projected to increase to £16.9 billion by 2035, representing 17% of its annual budget.”

Moreover, the Centre for Lifestyle Medicine and Behaviour at Loughborough University and the hospital Research & Development department will jointly lead an independent evaluation to gauge the program’s effectiveness in achieving its objectives, which include promoting lasting behaviour change, enhancing diabetes management, and reducing NHS costs. This comprehensive research endeavour will encompass both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, with findings anticipated in 2025.

EXI remains steadfast in its commitment to revolutionising diabetes care and looks forward to working closely with the Milton Keynes Health and Care Partnership and the broader healthcare community to empower individuals living with diabetes in Milton Keynes and beyond.

EXI and Hyperice Unveil a New Diabetes-Focused Partnership, Announcing Their Joint Vision of Safe and Effective Self-Care for Patients https://www.exi.life/blog/exi-and-hyperice-unveil-a-new-diabetes-focused-partnership-announcing-their-joint-vision-of-safe-and-effective-self-care-for-patients/ Wed, 16 Aug 2023 13:04:33 +0000 https://www.exi.life/?p=2457 Hyperice and EXI

Partnership aims to provide support for people living with chronic conditions via personalized exercise prescriptions.

Irvine, CA. August 16, 2023 – EXI, the Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) that personalizes physical activity for people with long-term health conditions, today announced a first-of-its-kind partnership with Hyperice, a global high-performance wellness brand that specializes in technology that promotes the recovery, mobility and improved movement of muscles and joints.

Through this partnership, Hyperice’s Normatec dynamic air compression system will be offered through the EXI platform, providing pain relief for its users living with diabetes as a particular focus and multiple long-term health conditions. Normatec by Hyperice has been well-established in elite sports, where its technology is used effectively to enhance dynamic warm-ups and recovery for professional athletes, and over recent years has expanded its reach to the general population as a viable solution for increasing circulation and decreasing inflammation in the lower body through its compression boots.

“At present, if clinicians want to provide patients with devices for home monitoring – an ECG holter monitor, for example – it’s on a short-term loan basis and inhibits positive habit changes,” said Grace McNamara, CEO of EXI. “At EXI, we’ve identified a number of existing high-quality medical-grade consumer products that are backed by science and easy to use. By offering Normatec to our consumers, we can promote and support long-standing self-care at home utilizing technology that is backed by science.”

EXI’s forward-thinking approach effectively combines person-centered consumer technology with healthcare delivered at home, and we’re excited to be part of it,” said Jim Huether, CEO of Hyperice. “The collaboration of technologies, specifically with our Normatec compression systems, represents a win-win for patients and clinicians, supporting improved outcomes for patients within a remotely monitored, self-care model.”

Normatec’s precision pulse technology has been shown in numerous peer-reviewed studies to offer benefits as diverse as increased range of motion[1] and reduced pain sensitivity[2]. Studies have shown that a single bout of Normatec Pulse compression improves conduit artery endothelial function systemically, as well as RH blood flow in the compressed limbs[3], and that Normatec Pulse compression also significantly increases total and oxygenated haemoglobin[4].
