EXI announces exciting collaboration with the Milton Keynes University Hospital Trust and Milton Keynes City Council, Centre for Lifestyle Medicine and behavior at Loughborough University.

EXI is delighted to announce an exciting collaboration that marks a significant step forward in our mission to improve the lives of individuals living with diabetes in Milton Keynes. This transformative initiative, developed in partnership with the Milton Keynes University Hospital Trust and Milton Keynes City Council, Centre for Lifestyle Medicine and behavior at Loughborough University and working with primary care, is set to empower the local diabetic population to take control of their health.

The initiative combines the use of the Apple Watch, EXI mobile app and a compelling rewards scheme. Together, these elements will motivate and engage diabetic patients in Milton Keynes over a 24-month period, encouraging positive lifestyle changes.

The EXI app will be used to prescribe personalized exercise programmes for each patient in the scheme. Drawing upon the latest research across a spectrum of long-term health conditions, including but not limited to diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, anxiety, and depression, EXI ensures the safety and feasibility of exercise programs.

For those with iPhones, an Apple Watch will be provided, offering a wealth of health sensors, unrivalled privacy and security features, an exceptional user experience, and consent controls centered on the user. This invaluable tool will enable patients to track their progress and adhere to their prescribed exercise routines.

To further incentivize and motivate participants, we are introducing a rewards system that will recognise and celebrate their achievements in meeting their physical activity goals throughout the entire 24-month program.

Grace McNamara, CEO of EXI, emphasises the significance of this initiative, stating, “We firmly believe that interventions like this are pivotal in improving the well-being of diabetic patients while alleviating the strain on primary care, both in terms of GP resources and the NHS budget.”

Louise O’Mahony, Head of Customer Success at EXI advocates, “By harnessing the power of technology, we can deliver personalised care that empowers patients to actively participate in their health journeys, fostering long-term, sustainable behavior change. In doing so, we can redirect valuable time back to our clinical staff and contribute to reducing the overall costs associated with diabetes treatment—a condition currently costing the NHS around £10 billion annually, projected to increase to £16.9 billion by 2035, representing 17% of its annual budget.”

Moreover, the Centre for Lifestyle Medicine and Behavior at Loughborough University and the hospital Research & Development department will jointly lead an independent evaluation to gauge the program’s effectiveness in achieving its objectives, which include promoting lasting behavior change, enhancing diabetes management, and reducing NHS costs. This comprehensive research endeavour will encompass both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, with findings anticipated in 2025.

EXI remains steadfast in its commitment to revolutionising diabetes care and looks forward to working closely with the Milton Keynes Health and Care Partnership and the broader healthcare community to empower individuals living with diabetes in Milton Keynes and beyond.
